Degrees - Prospective Students
About the Institute

The Australian Institute of Public Safety is located at 400 Queen Street Melbourne and is easily accesible by all modes of public transport. We are in walking distance of both Flagstaff and Melbourne Central stations and trams travelling along Elizabeth Street.

Established in 1990, the Australian Institute of Public Safety is an Australian owned independent tertiary education provider offering a range of degree and graduate qualifications in criminal justice, public safety and security.

The courses are accredited by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority and are offered on both a full-time and part-time basis*.

All Institute courses have been designed in consultation with employers, industry, academics and professional associations, to ensure that the courses not only provide a sound theoretical and academic education but are also career relevant and reflect current trends.

The Institute is Quality Assured, works closely with government and major corporations both locally and abroad, provides expert evidence to courts within all jurisdictions and has won a number of Australian and international awards for its work in public safety.

Graduates of the courses will have world standard qualifications that are widely recognised by professional agencies and major employers within the various fields.

The courses are aimed at:
• School leavers who wish to pursue a career in criminal justice, public safety or a related field; and
• People involved in occupations related to the operation and administration of criminal justice, public safety, security and related professions, and who wish to enhance their knowledge, professional capabilities and career prospects.

Why Study at the Institute?

Entry into the Degree Courses
Acceptance into our undergraduate degree program is not based solely on ENTER scores or previous study, but rather on the applicant’s ability to cope with academic study and the requirements of the course, and an enthusiasm for the field of study related to an area of criminal justice.

For international students, please refer to

Qualifications
Graduates of our courses receive a recognised tertiary qualification - a Bachelor of Social Science or Bachelor of Science.

We know who you are!
Unlike universities, our student population is smaller. With fewer students, we can provide a greater level of personalised service, individual attention and more help when students need it.

Facilities and Services
The Institute offers classrooms with state of the art technology, a well resourced library with up to date collections, access to all relevant print and electronic resources; and computing facilities for students, including Internet access.
Student welfare, medical and counselling services are also available.

Student Involvement
The Institute involves students at all levels of the operation including a Student/Staff Consultative Committee and student representation on the Institute’s Higher Education Board. Many Institute learning activities are also based upon student suggestions and feedback.
